tuesday july 31

Huge congratulations to Mike and Karen! Welcome, Jack. Boy oh boy are you cute!

I am worth exactly: $2,126,252.00
Not too shabby. And you?

Our company moved to a new location again, this time up in Midtown. The photo below should give you an idea.

thursday july 19

Eleni is now about 5 weeks away from her due date. However, at the moment she is breech. She could still flip and if not they will try to flip her. We'll have to just wait and see. The other night while looking at the calendar I realized just how close we are. I felt like I was on that ride, FreeFall? I can't imagine the delivery room. Yikes!

The Worst Sequels of All Time.

Just saw this Appleton site. Really slick.

saturday july 14

A quick note: Thanks to those who sent condolences. Just to clarify, my Uncle Jimmy who passed away was my Grand-Uncle. Nonetheless, it's sad and because my family is close and I knew him quite well for my whole life.

friday july 13

I just found out that my Uncle Jim passed away. His wife, my Aunt Nancy, also passed away recently. I guess they are together now, which is how it should be. They were married for over 50 years. Still, I am sad. He was a beautiful person.

Bye, Uncle Jim, we love you.

Last night something happened

After the past two nights of video card nightmares, my machine at home just wouldn't boot up. It starts up but no boot up. I must have pressed that start button like 50 times. Nothing. So feeling defeated I head off to bed.

Eleni and I lay in the dark discussing the situation, calculating our losses: her pregnancy journal, all the photography and music, etc. After about a half an hour I decide that I should just shut it off. So I get up and walk over to press the start/shutdown button and it powers down and the back up by accident. Now I think, oh let me turn on the monitor just to see and BAM! The machine is booting up. Why? What didn't I do the first 50 times?

So there I am at 2am backing everything up onto zipdiscs, grinning, thrilled that I didn't lose it all. Finally the machine seemed stable. More tests tonight. Anyone need a 64mb 3D Hercules Video Card? Brand Spankin' New?

thursday july 12

I have been having real trouble with my machine at home. It began when I decided to upgrade my nVidia 16mb graphic card. Install was a little rocky but finally seemed to work. This morning, however, the box just won't start up. I am one night away from starting to pull my hair out.

This cartoon/video is hysterical: F**k Her Gently

Funny Story

Eleni and I meet up at 59th Street and take the 1/9 train home. It's super hot, crowded, sticky down in the subway. Did I mention hot? The doors open and we get on only to realize . . . a car with no A/C. Ughhh. Eleni, who is now 8 months pregnant, wasn't going to make it to 242nd street in this car.

So at the next stop we move up to the next car. Ahhhh, the nice cool...huh? Oh my God! What the hell is that smell? Everyone looks like they are being gassed or something. Turns out to be these two girls, one of which is wearing a sweater! They are reaching up holding the rail. It was horrible. My eyes were watering!

Two stops later this big Hispanic guy gets on and right away he starts in.

"Ooooh, man, what the hell?"
[Obviously coming for the same non-airconditioned car we did]

"I don't belive this! Now I gotta deal with tha Blimpie sandwiches?! Awww man, c'mon!"

Everyone is laughing now except the two girls who didn't seem to speak english and didn't understand what was happening.

Now for those of you who don't know, Blimpie is a chain of sandwich shops. This guy was referring to the onions they put on their subs, which closely resembles the smell of body odor. Although you try not to think of that when you're eating them.

"Damn, he continues, it ain't so bad once you swallow it a little, ya know? You get used to it."

Eleni and I were laughing so hard I thought she might pee in her pants. Finally, at 116th they get off the train and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Deodorant, people. Please. It's hot out there.
